Atlus’ parent company files for bankruptcy

If you are a fan of JRPG’s, then you have almost certainly stumbled across an Atlus game in your time. The company is well known for their Shin Megami Tensei franchise. They also developed one of my favourite RPG’s of the last generation,Persona 4 and the publisher of another in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.

NeoSeeker released this article earlier today. The article states Atlus’ parent company, Index, has filed for bankruptcy. It also goes on to say an Auction process is already in process purchase the Japanese developers. It is said that there are as many as twenty bidders in the race, one of which is Sega.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see Square-Enix on the list of potential bidders. The JRPG giants of gaming have published Atlus games in the past. Maybe Nintendo can snap them up and bring some more exclusive titles to the Wii U.

I just hope the winner of the auction allows Atlus to carry on developing games in their own unique way. You can see a list of Atlus games by clicking here. Check out the Persona 4 trailer below.

You heard of Atlus?  If so, what games of theirs do you like? Please leave a comment below.

SEGA supposedly keen to acquire Atlus. The downside of this timing being that the much anticipated Shin Megami Tensei 4 on 3DS could be left without a European release. It has only just released in the US with some great reviews, and unless you want to go down the expensive route of acquiring a US 3DS, then options could be quite limited.

I think it will go down to the amount of sales the series usually sells in EUR and then for SEGA(if they win) to deem if it is worthwhile or not. If not, I can see it just going digital only in a worst case scenario.

Best Atlus game ever? Snowboarding Kids. Duh!
